Indonesia
Report on fantastic IDAHO program in Indonesia, despite threats and intimidations
The year 2010 looked to be an Annus Horribilis for the LGBT communities in Indonesia. Not only had the ILGA-Asia conference in Surabaya (26-29 March) to be cancelled due to the massive assaults from religious fundamentalists, but there were other assaults in the wake of that event in Surabaya. It was only timely that a LGBT consolidation meeting took place on 6-8 May 2010 in Jakarta, where the Indonesian LGBTIQ Forum was established. This meeting succeeded to energize LGBTIQ groups. Guyana marks IDAHO
The Society Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination (SASOD), Guyana’s LGBT-rights organisation, marked the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) with a media appearance on “First Look,” a popular morning programme on national television. Two Sasod members were interviewed about the significance and commemoration of IDAHO globally and in Guyana. Brazil’s President Lula decrees National Day Against Homophobia
Attending the request of ABGLT (Brazilian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuals and Trans Association), on Friday June 4th Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, signed a decree creating the National Day Against Homophobia, to be commemorated annually on May 17th.
