The IDAHO Committee was set up by the founders of the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia.
Our objective is to make the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia a global awareness and mobilisation moment that is a useful space for activists to act at all levels.
We act all year round to make the Day known and to encourage activities at all levels
We act to increase the political weight of the Day and its capacity to attract policy and media attention
by promoting the official recognition the Day gets from official stakeholders
by highlighting the scope and the diversity of the mobilisation on the Day
We support local organisations to develop strategies in advocacy, awareness raising and public campaigning around the Day
We use the media and policy attention the Day gets to :
promote messages against homophobia and transphobia through public campaigning activities such as video projects, collaboration with artists, etc...
develop international campaigning initiatives around specific themes

As part of their youth development work, the Gay and Lesbian Memory in Action (GALA), a NGO based at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, has been mentoring young LGBT people in campaign building around issues that affect them.
As a result, students put together an exciting campaign for IDAHO, which included a silent protest at University Avenue, a flash mob and a panel discussion about campaign building.
